Is it really pop music on PopMusic.com? I registered the name PopMusic.com before I even started high school - within 5 years, I'd been offered a record contract by Britney Spears' record company, one million people had downloaded/streamed my music, and I had a bigger mailing list than 'N Sync. The amount of money expended? Zero. The amount of effort? Zero. When PopMusic.com was a completely blank page - 800 people around the world, each day, would think "Hmmm....what happens if I type 'PopMusic.com' into my browser?" It's never changed. I've appeared in front of over 500 million people (half a billion) on television, for another reason (also pretty much out of my control!) You can learn more about that when I get my home page up and running (AustinWashington.com) (or in the video on the bottom of the PopMusic.com home page, as of this writing). Or here! (video below) There are those who would use this unexpected luck for selfish ends, but I believe God - in whatever form you want to believe in him, (if at all) - fate, destiny, Providence (as George Washington called it) - put me here for a reason. The speaking stuff, I take care of elsewhere (on TV, mostly....) But the music thing is easy. I make music that makes people say stuff like this: Your music really made me think. I recorded it on a four-track cassette player, so everything had to be the first take - because, if you did a second take, it would mean erasing the first take... The guitar solo sucked, I decided, after my friends all left... I was, maybe, fourteen when I wrote it, and fifteen when I recorded it... And it sat around for years. Every year, I'd listen to it, and add something... Then, a year later...didn't sound finished, I'd add something else... This when on until I was no longer a teenager! My favourite year was when I decided the guitar solo really did suck A normal person might, y'know, play, like, a new guitar solo But normal people aren't the President of Pop™ ;-) It seemed obvious - and it still does - that what was needed in that important middle of the song... Was a rapping, spiritual, god-like, duck. Of course. Then came the recitation of Shakespeare. Exactly what every fourteen year-old's white middle class rapette suburban hip hop song should have in the middle... A rapping, spiritual duck, followed by Shakespeare....
